Study on Primary Care and Diagnostic Services in Emerging Markets

IFC is seeking to appoint a consultant to help identify growth markets and opportunities for IFC and IFC clients in the provision of primary care services and diagnostic services, in particular medical laboratories and medical imaging.

Objective: The overall objective of the study is for IFC to identify priority markets for IFC to target for investment primary care and diagnostics industries for the coming 5-10 years.

World Bank project pipeline per region

Curious about future World Bank projects in the geographic region you are active in? Interested in knowing how much will be invested by the World Bank in a particular country? Want to know the pipeline of projects, with information on the project amount, the main sectors and themes, and the link to the project website?

Last week we published the pipeline projects Image result for pipelineper sector, but since then have been asked to provide the information per region too, as some organizations have a specific regional focus and expertise.

The information is currect per June 29, 2015. Not all projects may ultimately be approved by the Board of Directors.

The World Bank is looking for a consulting firm to provide guidance to the clients project preparation consultant and review the outputs generated by the clients consultant in the following aspects:

  1. hydrodynamic modeling of the Phan River Basin built by the consultant already engaged by the client;
  2. feasibility study of the project, especially the sections related to alternative analysis, hydraulic structures, pump station layout and selection of pumps, economic analysis;
  3. consistence among the feasibility study report, environmental impact assessment report, and resettlement action plan, as well as other project documents that may be reviewed.

Renewed support for infrastructure in developing countries

The Netherlands has renewed its system of financial support for major infrastructure projects in developing countries. “The building and construction of, for example, ports, irrigation systems and coastal protection are crucial to economic development and improve the lives of the population. The new DRIVE program plays an important and innovative way in this,” says Minister Ploumen for Foreign Trade and Development.

It is expected that over the coming years investments in infrastructure will increase enormously in Africa. Reports speak of a ‘boom’ more than $ 100 billion in investments annually over a long period. DRIVE stands for Development and Related Infrastructure Investment Vehicle, and is the successor of the Program for Development-related Infrastructure in Developing Countries (ORIO).

A New Partnership between FMO and IFC to Help Mainstream Resource Efficiency in Building Construction

FMO signed a partnership Memorandum of Understanding with IFC, International Finance Corporation to encourage emerging markets to mainstream resource-efficient building construction with the EDGE (“Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies”) certification system.

An innovation of IFC, EDGE shows Signing+EDGEproperty developers how fast and affordable it is to construct resource-efficient buildings, enabling them to pass value directly to building owners and tenants. The complimentary EDGE software can be used to determine the viability of a project at the design stage, leading to a set of solutions that reduce energy, water, and the energy used to make building materials by at least 20 percent.

Leading role for the Netherlands in World Bank food investments

The Netherlands is to take a leading role at the World Bank in tackling severe hunger. Because of the prominent position of Dutch businesses and knowledge institutes in the area of efficient and sustainable food production, the Netherlands has been asked to advise the Bank on food projects in developing countries. Development cooperation minister Lilianne Ploumen will be signing an agreement this Thursday with the World Bank at a summit conference in Rotterdam.

rwandan farmers‘Everyone should have access to a sufficient supply of healthy and safe food,’ Ms Ploumen said. ‘The Dutch agriculture and horticulture sector has the know-how to boost crop yields and cut costs, while lightening the burden on the environment. Together with the World Bank, we can deploy our solutions worldwide.’ Much of the partnership will focus on knowledge-sharing by the business community, knowledge institutions, civil society organisations and government. Dutch experts will also be enlisted in an array of projects and the Netherlands will provide training courses and workshops on topics like safe food chains and sustainable farming.
