eC2: Support for Implementation of Indonesia WAVES

Indonesia is a partner country in the Global Partnership program (GPP) for Wealth world money smallAccounting and Valuation of Ecosystems (WAVES). The WAVES GPP promotes implementation of natural capital accounting (NCA) following UN Statistical Division (UNSD)s 2012 Standard for System of Environmental Economic Accounting (SEEA 2012). Indonesia WAVES Program development objective is to strengthen the capacity of Government of Indonesia to regularly and systematically (i) implement NCA, and (ii) use the developed accounts in policy analysis in natural assets utilization and development planning. WAVES Program will provide technical assistance support to achieve the programs intermediate outcomes and increase capacity to compile, understand, and use NCA to inform development planning.

Call for Proposals: Statistical Capacity Building Pilots, Funded by World Bank

The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data on Monday, July 18, abcde-2016-300_0announced a new multi-million dollar funding initiative to support collaborative data innovations for sustainable development.

As part of the Collaborative Data Innovations for Sustainable Development Pilot Funding, which is supported by the World Bank’s Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building (TFSCB), the Global Partnership is now seeking innovative proposals for data production, dissemination and use, primarily in low­-income and lower­-middle-­income countries, for sustainable development generally and linked to the Sustainable Development Goals in particular.
The goal is to encourage collaboration, experimentation, learning and capacity development in the field of sustainable development data, especially where needs are continuous or recurrent, and where innovations can be readily adapted to other regions and sectors. Continue reading →

eConsultant2: Energy Access Household Survey in Liberia

The World Bank-ESMAP team is launching the first Global Energy Access Household AfricaSurveys in access deficit countries to set a baseline to track progress towards Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) goal and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 7 on access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy by 2030.

A reputed firm with extensive experience in household surveys is sought to conduct the baseline survey on energy access and forecast of electricity demand in Liberia using the multi-tier framework approach to track progress towards SDG7 and SE4ALL goal. The survey will be nationally representative and administered to both urban and rural localities. The firm will work with the World Bank-ESMAP to pre-test, finalize and implement the survey. Data collection should be carefully monitored to ensure high quality information. After completing the fieldwork, the firm will deliver the final dataset and summary report to the World Bank-ESMAP. Additional details on the scope of work will be available in the Terms of Reference (TOR).

WB report: How Eight Cities Succeeded in Rejuvenating their Urban Land

The single most crucial component in rejuvenating decaying urban areas around the world is private sector participation, according to a report released today from the World Bank and the Public Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) during the World Cities Summit taking place in Singapore this week.

“Urban regeneration projects are rarely implemented solely by the public sector.  There is a need for massive financial resources that most cities can’t meet,” said Ede Ijjasz-Vasquez, Senior Director for the World Bank’s Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience Global Practice.  “Participation from the private sector is a critical factor in determining whether a regeneration program is successful – programs that create urban areas where citizens can live, work, and thrive.”

The expected duration of the contract is from September December 2016, with the actual data collection taking place in October.

The Government of Guinea-Bissau (GoGB)s Strategy Document flags the enormous needs for infrastructure investments that the country is facing and confirms the importance of PPP to advance specific projects and overall economic growth. In this context, the GoGB requested technical assistance from WBG to foster the agenda of PPPs in the country. To assist in the execution of this mandate, the WBG requires the services of a consulting firm with a good understanding of PPP development challenges in developing countries, to perform activities under the second pillar including (i) Assistance to the Administração dos Portos da Guiné-Bissau to take stock of the existing social context at the port of Bissau in view of a possible PPP transaction; (ii) Review of existing project pipelines and pre-feasibility study of the first two priority projects identified (iii) Capacity building program.
