Madhya Pradesh, the central state of India, has been in the forefront to contribute
significantly towards promotion of clean energy solutions in the country as well as globally. To take such initiatives forward, Government of MP through its agency Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMS) – has requested the World Bank to support them on new technologies such as floating solar. On request of the Government of India, World Bank is already supporting Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), under Innovations in Solar Power & Hybrid technologies project, to invest in early demonstration projects but with an objective to also build a robust pipeline of such projects while developing the policy and regulatory ecosystem. As part of deepening the market for floating solar projects in the country, engagement with MP will be an important step. This is specifically important as lack of experience in deploying several of these technologies in India, and globally, at scale is considered as a major constraint by various developers, financiers and other stakeholders.
World Bank will support RUMS and Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation (NHDC) in exploring potential of floating solar project in one of the states water bodies Omkareshwar Dam in Khandwa district of MP.
RISE 2018 charts global progress on sustainable energy policies and shows that policies matter – they are a leading indicator and building block of the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
The report finds that the world has seen a huge uptake in sustainable energy policies. However, progress is still far from where it needs to be for the world to reach global climate goals and the Sustainable Development Goal on Energy (SDG7).

ESMAP seeks to build on the initial success of ENERGYDATA (a data publishing platform that hosts energy data provided by the WBG and other development partners) to develop new apps to respond to existing and upcoming needs from our clients, the private sector, and key development partners, and also consolidate those apps already developed and provide a more standardized user experience. ESMAP proposes to issue a new Master Agreement contract covering the development of new apps, consolidation of existing apps, curation of new and existing datasets, user interface improvements and routine maintenance of the ENERGYDATA site and all its current and future subdomains.
The Asia-Pacific region, comprised of 58 economies, is geographically expansive and a picture of diversity. The trends for sustainable energy in Asia-Pacific, which mirror the region’s economic and resource diversity, are underscored by the fact that Asia-Pacific comprises 60 percent of the global population, generates 32 percent of global GDP, consumes more than half of the global energy supply, while generating 55 percent of global emissions from fuel combustion.
The region’s sustainable energy picture is captured in a new report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), entitled “Asia-Pacific Progress in Sustainable Energy: A Global Tracking Framework 2017 Regional Assessment Report.” The report is based on the World Bank and International Energy Agency’s Global Tracking Framework (GTF), which tracks the progress of countries on energy access, energy efficiency, and renewable energy under Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7).

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), is seeking a qualified consulting firm to undertake a market assessment of floating PV.
The purpose of the proposed study is twofold: 1. assess the commercial readiness of floating PV in general, as well as the key issues and potential business models; and 2. identify suitable sites in Pakistan.

The World Bank (WB) is initiating a new technical assistance activity focused on Renewable Energy Resource Mapping in Laos, with funding from the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP). The initial focus will be on small hydro mapping, with other components potentially added in the future depending on funding availability and client demand.
Now in its third edition, the Global Tracking Framework (GTF) is well-established as a global dashboard documenting progress towards the three Sustainable Energy for All objectives for 2030: universal access to energy, doubling both the rate of progress on energy efficiency, and the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
The previous version of the report concluded that we need to accelerate our efforts on each one of those fronts. How has the world fared since then?
RISE is the first global policy scorecard of its kind, grading 111 countries in three areas: energy access, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
The report is aimed at helping governments assess if they have a policy and regulatory framework in place to drive progress on sustainable energy and pinpoints where more can be done to attract private investments.

The projects objective is to develop and disseminate practical and timely information targeted for government officials, developers, investors and donors who wish to promote mini-grids, powered largely from renewable or hybrid generation sources, to scale-up electrification. Just months after a historic climate conference in Paris, I can’t help but marvel at how far the world has progressed in the uptake of renewable energy. Take solar power, for example. What used to be a prohibitively expensive endeavor just years ago, is now a household-level solution in many countries. Then there are the record-setting solar auctions in countries like Zambia, the United Arab Emirates, India, Mexico, and Peru.
