World Water Week 2018

World Water Week in Stockholm is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues. Experts, practitioners, decision-makers, business innovators and young professionals from a range of sectors and countries come to Stockholm to network, exchange ideas, foster new thinking and develop solutions to the most pressing water-related challenges of today.

The World Bank Group will convene and participate in several sessions of World Water Week 2018, taking place from August 26-31. Scientific and technological advances are transforming lives: they are even helping investing-in-people2poorer countries close the gap with rich countries in life expectancy. But, poorer countries still face tremendous challenges, as almost a quarter of children under five are malnourished, and 60 percent of primary school students are failing to achieve even a rudimentary education. In fact, more than 260 million children and youth in poorer countries are receiving no education at all.

eC2: Building Energy Resilient Power Systems in the Caribbean

The World Bank is currently working with Saint Lucia (SLU) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in the Caribbean to help improve the resilience of the power systems of these two countries to extreme weather events that will become more severe due to climate change. The World Bank will offer similar support to three other OECS countries afterwards. These Terms of Reference (TOR) are for a Power System Engineering Consulting Firm to support the World Bank energy team by conducting an assessment of the impacts of past storms (2 -3) on the power systems of SLU, SVG, St. Kitts and Nevis (SKN), and Antigua and Barbuda (A&B), identifying key risks and vulnerabilities, and offering energy resilience enhancement recommendations associated with utility power generation assets as well as transmission and distribution systems. The consulting firm will also develop an investment plan with the estimated cost of these recommended measures.

eC2: Program Advisory for Hybrid Annuity Waste Water Projects under Namami Gange

IFC is looking to appoint a technical advisor to assist it in the technical aspects of the Ganges_Indiafollowing tasks: i) Component 1 – Provide meta advisory support for on-going hybrid annuity transactions being undertaken by different commercial transaction advisors in 13 cities, where IFC will provide overall quality assurance and supervisory support in such projects. Of these, inputs for project preparation will be required in 5 projects.
ii) Component 2 Provide transaction advisory for two cities, Agra and Lucknow. IFC will structure a viable and bankable project structure and provide assistance to NMCG and state level executing agency in the selection of private sector developer(s) for both cities in a transparent and competitive bidding process.
iii) Component 3 – Extend post-transaction advisory support for 18 hybrid annuity projects, for a period of two years post award. This includes 3 awarded projects in Varanasi, Haridwar and Mathura; 13 on-going projects referenced in (i) above and; two proposed projects in Agra and Lucknow referenced in (ii) above.

eC2: PNG Hospital PPP – Legal Consultant

The Government of the Papua New Guinea has requested IFC to assist the Papua New780-439-amrcapture Guinea Treasury and the Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority, to assess the potential to develop, finance, upgrade, operate and maintain the Mt Hagen Hospital under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) transaction (The Project).

The objective of the PPP is to enhance the infrastructure and operations and maintenance at Mt Hagen Hospital, to improve the delivery of health care services at the Hospital. The Project will focus on addressing the infrastructure requirements stemming from underinvestment and lack of adequate maintenance programs, and the potential to include non-clinical and some selected clinical services in the scope of the Project.

IFC is seeking the services of a qualified legal consultant to support its transaction advisory team on developing and implementing the tender for this project.

World Bank Group Exceeds its Climate Finance Target with Record Year

Fiscal Year 2018 sets record with $20.5 billion in finance for country-level climate action

WASHINGTON, July 19, 2018 – The World Bank Group announced today that in fiscal appyear 2018, 32.1 percent of its financing had climate co-benefits – already exceeding the target set in 2015 that 28 percent of its lending volume would be climate-related by 2020. This amounted to a record-setting $20.5 billion in climate-related finance delivered in the last fiscal year – the result of an institution-wide effort to mainstream climate considerations into all development projects.

The 28 percent target was a key goal of the Bank Group’s Climate Change Action Plan, adopted in April 2016, and was designed to support countries to deliver on their national goals under the Paris Agreement on climate change.

How can Indonesia achieve a more sustainable transport system?

Indonesia, a vast archipelago of more than 17,500 islands, is the fourth most populous id-street-scene-jakarta-un-women-flickrcountry in the world, with 261 million inhabitants, and the largest economy in Southeast Asia, with a nominal Gross Domestic Product of $933 billion.

Central government spending on transport increased by threefold between 2010-2016. This has enabled the country to extend its transport network capacity and improve access to some of the most remote areas across the archipelago.

eC2:Improving energy, water and chemicals use efficiency in the textile sector

A local (South Africa) consulting firm is being sought who will undertake the following work:
1. Establish baselines and collect key performance indicators data on the water, energy and chemicals use and wastewater generated.
2. Design and propose a resource efficiency improvement program (energy, water and chemicals).
3. Prepare a financial plan for the resource efficiency program. The financial plan must explore different investment and business model options and describe which fits the best a selected client.
4. Assess the financial feasibility of implementing power generation projects such as solar photovoltaic, natural gas generators and combined heat and power system.

eC2: Social Inclusion and Youth Development Survey

The services include implementation of surveys that will include modules on: household characteristics; access to and perceptions of local infrastructure; access to and perceptions of education; social networks, social capital, and collective action and associations; local governance; the daily activities and interactions among youth; use of IT and social media; gender; and violent extremism. The survey must be implemented using CAPI system and will cover approximately 5,000 households. The sample will be distributed nationally in Tajikistan using a standard 2-stage approach wherein stratification ensures sufficient sample distribution by region and rural/urban areas. The team plans to oversample respondents in some districts and towns.
