eC2: Small Hydropower Mapping in Myanmar

Deadline: 21-Mar-2019 at 11:59:59 PM (Eastern Time – Washington D.C.) HYDRO

It is estimated that at least 500 MW of additional generation capacity is required to come on line annually up to 2030 to meet the growing domestic demand. Although the country has abundant freshwater resources, the hydropower sector has experienced relatively limited development compared to the identified potential total capacity. To date, no reliable information on Myanmar’s available small- and medium-size HPP potential is available, neither a comprehensive database on planned, under development and commissioned plants of these capacities exist. Therefore, in order to assess the options for development of greenfield small- and medium-size hydropower plants in Myanmar, IFC intends to collect information, prepare a database and map all HPPs in the country with the capacity between 2-30 MW.
