2) Study of data standards/specifications being used for collection and maintenance of data pertaining to cadastral, critical infrastructure, land use, etc. as well as broader planning and hazard/risk assessments;
3) Recommendation on what municipal services could be linked with geospatial data; and,
4) Preparation of a strategy for enhancement of technical capacity and equipment for different types of municipalities.

Improving the Organizational Structure and Staff Conditions of Service for Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company, Zambia

Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC)is currently implementing a World Bank-assisted Lusaka Sanitation Project which aims to increase access to improved sanitation services and strengthening LWSC’s institutional capacity to deliver on its mandate. Within the context of the project, LWSC management has requested the Bank to support an urgent technical assistance (TA) activity aimed at reviewing LWSCs current organizational structure in order to inform important HR-related decisions that LWSC management and Board of Directors are considering as they embark on the process of transforming the utility. The objective of the TA is to review and advise on an improved and sustainable organizational structure and staff conditions of service for LWSC. The outputs from this activity will help inform critical decisions on maximizing staff productivity and performance, and reducing skyrocketing staff costs.

eC2: National Student Assessment, Bangladesh

The National Student Assessment (NSA) 2011, 2013 and NSA 2015 assessed the learning for-better-early-childhood-care-and-education-in-sri-lankaachievement of the aforementioned pupils relative to the learning outcomes prescribed in the primary curriculum. Other objectives were: to investigate differences in pupil achievement by key system, school and pupil factors {e.g., division, district, school type, locality (urban v. rural), and gender}; to examine the relationships between achievement and factors such as school size, class size, pupil-teacher ratio, attendance rate, teachers’ qualifications and training, training of school managers, and frequency of inspection; and to draw implications for improvements in teaching and learning through enhanced policy actions, planning and management, and teacher education. It is expected that relevant Government of Bangladesh (GoB) line agencies will utilize the findings and recommendations in order to inform educational planning of sub-components such as teacher professional development and curriculum reform.

The country has committed light-bulb-297489_640to improving and promoting energy efficiency driven by the energy security risks associated with the pressures from growing population and rising fuel demand on its finite fossil fuel supply. This shortage of traditional fuels poses a serious challenge to the industrial growth of Egypt. The industrial sector energy demand amounts to approximately one third of final energy production. Yet energy efficiency within industries is not adequately exploited due to high energy subsidies, the lack of an effective policy framework, weak environmental law enforcement, and the lack of availability of clean technologies in the local market, among other factors.

What could be good investment strategies given that we cannot predict future lake level fluctuation or transport demand on the lake?

1. To train the staff and junior agronomists of participating rice mill clients and key farmers/farmer group leaders who will be designated by the clients on how to grow and manage SRP rice production. The junior agronomists and farmer group leaders will then provide trainings to SRP rice production farmers. The SRP project will be initially worked with one rice mill client (with up to 40 key famers/farmer group leaders, 2 junior agronomists) to reach 300 farmers to produce an estimate of 2,000 tons of SRP paddy during the first year, and expand it to cover 1,000 famers by the third year.  2. To ensure the use SRP standards and performance indicators in respective supply chains of participating clients in line with SRP guidelines/protocol developed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).  3. To provide support to the WBG project team to increase demand for SRP rice production, through field days and demonstration plots, as well as through technical advice to identified rice mill clients and interested international buyers. In addition, support further discussions with Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fishery (MAFF) on promoting the SRP cultivation practices at the sector level, including supporting the hosting of annual 2017 SRP assembly meeting in Cambodia.
