The World Bank’s Board of Directors today approved a record investment of $700 million in guarantees for Ghana’s Sankofa Gas Project – a transformational project that will help address the country’s serious energy shortages by developing new sources of clean and affordable natural gas for domestic power generation.
The Board approved a unique combination of two guarantees for the Project – an IDA Payment guarantee of $500 million that supports timely payments for gas purchases by Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and an IBRD Enclave Loan guarantee of $200 million that enables the project to secure financing from its private sponsors. Together, the guarantees are expected to mobilize $7.9 billion in new private investment for offshore natural gas, representing the biggest foreign direct investment in Ghana’s history.
The exploration and commercialization of the gas will be carried out by two private investors, Eni of Italy and Vitol Group of the Netherlands

ABUJA, July 21 (Reuters) – Nigeria’s presidency said on Tuesday the World Bank had pledged to spend up to $2.1 billion to rebuild the northeast of the country that has been devastated by Boko Haram militants.
President Muhammadu Buhari met with representatives of the World Bank, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Health Organization during a trip to Washington.
A World Bank spokeswoman said that during the meeting, the bank said the sum of $2.1 billion could be lent to Nigeria from its development agency and that support could also come from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Continue reading
On June 11, the Board of Directors of the World Bank approved the Sahel Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases, involving a total of $121 million. These funds are split between Burkina Faso ($37 million), Mali ($37 million), Niger ($37 million), and ECOWAS ($10 million).
The goal of the project is to increase access to and use of harmonized community-level services for the prevention and treatment of malaria and selected neglected tropical diseases in targeted cross-borders areas in participating countries in the Sahel region.
These goals are to be achieved through the following three components:

Under the supervision and guidance of an Advisory Services Task Team Lead or Delegate, the Individual Consultant will provide project management and client engagement support to agribusiness advisory projects in Côte d’Ivoire.

The Government of Guinea (GoG) has expressed interest that the International Finance Corporation (IFC) support the development of an enabling environment for PPPs and to assist in strengthening GoGs capacity to identify and implement PPPs. Initial efforts in this area would be geared to, with assistance of the IFC PPP Advisory services, in: 1) identifying and assessing a pipeline of infrastructure projects to determine which projects can potentially be developed into PPPs, 2) supporting the Direction Nationale du Patrimoine de l’Etat et des Investissements (DNPEIP) before a new PPP Unit is in place and the new PPP law passed, 3) advising and supporting the new PPP Unit to carry out its mandate, and 4) organising a Stakeholder consultation workshop to present the findings from the Study.
For the purposes of this assignment, IFC will be requiring the services of a qualified Consultant (technical, financial, legal expertise) and invites consultancy firms to indicate their interest.
