The world’s largest development finance institutions are working together on a common sets of principles for tracking climate finance. They have agreed on the first set for tracking mitigation finance. Similar principles for tracking adaptation finance and leverage are being developed this year.

Minister Ploumen on stage at Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day

Lilianne Ploumen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, took to the stage during the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day Concert in Washington DC. The concert took place on Saturday, April 18, 2015, during the Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group. On stage, Minister Ploumen made a new commitment to provide clean drinking water and toilets for those who currently lack access. Watch her speak to the crowd in Washington.

Every time I learn of another natural disaster – the people killed and injured, homes Axeldestroyed, livelihoods lost – I know we must act to reduce the tragic impact instead of waiting for the next disaster strikes.

We have that chance with this year’s World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, which seeks to finalize the successor to the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA2) that guides policymakers and international stakeholders in managing disaster risk. The conference is an opportunity to set new milestones in disaster risk reduction and fighting poverty.

Royal HaskoningDHV wins major contract coastal protection Bangladesh

International engineering and project management consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV has signed a €10.5 million contract with the Bangladesh Water Development Board for engineering consultancy services to protect Bangladesh’s vulnerable coastal zone, home to millions of people.

The next six yearsRoyalHaskoningDHV will be responsible for the detailed design, construction supervision and project management support of hundreds of kilometres of embankment to protect 17 coastal polders and its inhabitants and their livelihoods from natural disasters and climate change. The total project area is some 1,000 square kilometres.The contract is part of the World Bank financed Coastal Embankment Improvement Project, Phase-1 (CEIP-1) of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
