Flood Forecasting – India

The World Bank Group is looking for a firm to assist in the development of Flood Forecasting for the Ganges and the Brahmaputra Basins using satellite based precipitation, ensemble weather forecasts, and remotely-sensed river widths and height.

The firm is assigned to implement long-lead time, public-access flood forecasting systems for the Ganges and Brahmaputra basins spanning India, Bangladesh and Nepal utilizing new satellite precipitation estimates and ensemble weather forecasts from multiple centers.

Water Quality Testing – Nigeria

The majority of Port Harcourt residents rely on provision from private boreholes and shallow wells. The water quality from boreholes and shallow wells is not regulated.

The Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) supported in 2013/2014 a Water Quality Testing Study. The water quality data collected were from a structured sample of the full range of water sources used in the city: privately constructed boreholes and shallow wells utility sources, utility water received by customers and vended water.

Additional Financing Urban Water Sector Project – Burkina Faso

On May 28, 2009, the World Bank Group board of directors approved the Urban Water Sector Project for Burkina Faso. The overall objective of the project was to contribute to the achievement of the water and sanitation Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by increasing sustainable access to water and sanitation services in urban areas. This will be pursued by: (a) facilitating access to services through subsidized programs for constructing water service connections and public standpipes and on-site sanitation facilities; and (b) consolidating the achievements of the reform of the urban water supply sub-sector and strengthening capacities to deliver and manage services.

Water Security & Services Consultant – Brazil

The World Bank is looking for a consultant to perform a study to improve water security and services in the Brazilian state of Paraíba. The study will support the State of Paraíba in preparing a strategic action plan to improve water security and access to water services. This will include development of an investment plan and recommendations for state policies, instruments and management models with regard to water resources management, water services regulation and provision in order to support sustainable, resilient and inclusive development.

Consultant Water Supply System – Liberia

With the support of WSP / WB, the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) intends to carry out the Design Review for the rehabilitation of Monrovias water supply system (Phase 1) and feasibility Study for water supply and sanitation improvements for the cities of Harbel, Gbarnga and Ganta Consultancy (Phase 2).

This assignment has a double objective: (i) provide a rapid design review of the Monrovia water and sewer distribution system and propose an urgent rehabilitation plan taking into consideration the reduction of non-revenue water in the system (phase 1) and (ii) assess the feasibility of the water supply and sanitation infrastructure improvements for the secondary cities of Harpel, Gbarnga, and Ganta (phase 2)

Improving Access to Water and Sanitation for the Poor – Somalia

ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
Pro-Poor Access to Water and Sanitation – Hargeisa Case Study

This study will be driven by the following research questions:

1. Who are the poorest people/households in Hargeisa? How do we define them and where do we find them?
2. What access and service levels do the poor have to water and sanitation?
3. How do the poorest suffer disproportionately from their condition of access to W&S in terms of costs and health?
4. What opportunities exist to improve conditions of the poorest?

The case study will require a mixed methods approach.

The quantitative aspects include analysis of two data sets: WB poverty study and MICS as well as the design and implementation of a structured household sample survey.

The qualitative aspects will include focus group discussions – or similar methods – on the constraints to and opportunities for improving service delivery to the poor.

Analytical Work & TA Ganga River Basin, India

The terms of reference of the assignment outline a major program of work to support the strategic basin planning efforts of Government of India over a two to three year period. The focus of the project is on technical assistance to government though modelling and analytical work combined with capacity building.

The high-level objectives of the project are:
(i) To significantly strengthen the capability of relevant central and state government agencies to undertake comprehensive evidence-based strategic basin planning for the Ganga River basin;
(ii) To develop, document and disseminate (through detailed analytical work and stakeholder engagement) a set of plausible scenarios that balance significantly improving the health of the river and maintaining an acceptable level of economic productivity, and;
(iii) To build stronger and more accessible information and knowledge base to guide ongoing dialogue around and management of the Ganga River basin.

Royal HaskoningDHV wins major contract coastal protection Bangladesh

International engineering and project management consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV has signed a €10.5 million contract with the Bangladesh Water Development Board for engineering consultancy services to protect Bangladesh’s vulnerable coastal zone, home to millions of people.

The next six yearsRoyalHaskoningDHV will be responsible for the detailed design, construction supervision and project management support of hundreds of kilometres of embankment to protect 17 coastal polders and its inhabitants and their livelihoods from natural disasters and climate change. The total project area is some 1,000 square kilometres.The contract is part of the World Bank financed Coastal Embankment Improvement Project, Phase-1 (CEIP-1) of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Capacity Building Sanitation Plan – Vietnam

The development objective of the TA is to support the Can Tho City Peoples’ Committee and the City’s Department of Construction in implementing the poor-inclusive City Sanitation Plan by providing expertise to develop curricula, guidelines and training programs to increase implementation capacity for the Plan.

Through an assessment of current and future demand for human resources competencies in sanitation in Can Tho the TA will establish a framework and program for delivering capacity building to the city agencies responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of sanitation services in the city’s urban, peri-urban and rural areas.
