COWS supports the World Bank Group-wide priority engagements that require technical expertise, for understanding and providing solutions to the challenges involving multiple sectors, parties, and time scales.

Technical Consultant: Java 3 Gas Fired IPP

PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) (Persero) of the Republic of Indonesia intends to light-bulb-297489_640implement the Java 3 800MW combined cycle gas-fired Independent Power Producer (“IPP”) project in Gresik, East Java (the “Project”) on build-own-operate-transfer basis.

PLN is planning to select an experienced private sector developer to finance, construct and operate the Project through a competitive selection process. An experienced technical consulting firm is required to assist in carrying out technical and environmental and social (“E&S”) due diligence and provide technical expertise in preparation for the Projects competitive selection process, from feasibility up to commercial close of the Project.

The World Bank Group Framework/IFC Strategy for Engagement in the palm oil sector has identified smallholder development as a top priority for achieving more equitable benefit-sharing and better livelihoods for smallholders. IFCs Project on Indonesian Palm Oil Development for Smallholders (IPODS) is an innovative approach to improve the livelihoods and sustainability performance of independent smallholders. IFC in partnership with PT. Musim Mas is to implement an IPODS project with PT. Siringo Ringo in Rantau Prapat, North Sumatra.

MoU World Bank and Government of Curaçao

On Thursday September 15th the World Bank and the Government of Curaçao signed a Memorandum of 20160915-img_4375-2Understanding (MoU) focused on strengthen the relations and promoting the exchange of knowledge and expertise in areas of mutual interest. The Country Director for the Caribbean at the World Bank Ms. Sophie Sirtaine came to Curaçao for the official signing ceremony. The Government of Curaçao was represented by the Minister Economic Development.

The Minister of Finance was also involved in the process to get to this MoU. Both ministers were happy this MoU was signed as it is an expression of Curaçao’s desire to establish meaningful working relationships with strategic international partners in support of Curaçao’s long term sustainable development goals.

eC2: Flood Risk Management Plan for the Sava River Basin – Int’l Firm

The overall objective is to improve the quality and effectiveness of joint flood and drought management and forecasting capacities in the SRB. This particular projects component aims at fostering cooperation among the countries which share the Sava RB through preparation of the Sava FRMP. Sava FRMP shall ensure a coordinated planning of measures and support the implementation of joint activities of the countries cooperating in SRB aimed at creating the conditions for sustainable flood protection in the basin.

The overall objective of this Assignment is to support the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CoESCD) under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in increasing the institutional capacity and effectiveness of risk identification and emergency preparedness and response operations, by conducting a capacity and needs assessment and developing a roadmap for various departments within the CoESCD that are involved in risk identification and emergency preparedness and response, such as the Information Management Analytical Center, Crisis Management Center, Search and Rescue Center, and the Methodical-Training Center.

eC2:Mozambique Agricultural Aggregator Pilot

This pilot will engage a program manager to (a) select around 8 existing agricultural aggregator schemes in Mozambique and support them with subsidies to incorporate around 4,800 additional out-growers (in total);and (b) design and implement a rigorous cost-benefit evaluation of the financial and economic sustainability of the schemes and of their impact on job creation and farmer incomes, over a 30 month period. The program manager will work in close cooperation with a supervisory committee of World Bank Group staff and technical experts, who will sign off on the choice of aggregators, the amount of incremental subsidy per new out-grower incorporated; and on the evaluation methodology.

  • The Government of Vietnam is spending $18.5 million on community preparedness training, drills and physical infrastructure construction chosen by communities across 100 communes in 10 provinces.
  • The training, infrastructure and public awareness raising efforts are increasing the resilience of local communities to disaster events such as floods, droughts and typhoons.
