Dutch Royal Couple and Ministers Engage with IFI Leaders in Washington D.C.
During the working visit of H.M. the King and H.M the Queen of the Netherlands to the United States in April, a high-level reception was hosted at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. In his speech, the King emphasized the long-standing ties between the Netherlands and the U.S., but also challenges and potential ways to strengthen our relations. Subsequently, their Majesties circulated through the crowd, joined by the Ministers in attendance, for various topical discussion.

Collaboration between the Netherlands and Ivory Coast on Coastal Protection
The governments of Ivory Coast and the Netherlands, represented by Ivory Coast officials, Invest International, and the Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Liesje Schreinemacher, have initiated a project to strengthen the coastline near Abidjan. The collaboration aims to protect Ivory Coast’s coastline from flooding and erosion using sustainable, nature based solutions. To begin, a feasibility study funded by a one million euros investment will assess the best methods for coastal reinforcement. The subsequent implementation phase, anticipated to cost millions of euros, will safeguard Ivory Coast’s coastal regions and creates substantial opportunities for Dutch companies.

Tax compliance as a tool for development of small-sized countries
Dutch headquartered BearingPoint Caribbean were recently awarded a World Bank funded
project to modernize the tax administration on the Caribbean island of Grenada. The Grenada Inland Revenue Department (IRD) will be the 15th tax administration to use BearingPoint’s innovative software.
Grenada, like many other Small Island Developing States (SIDS), is highly vulnerable to climate change, natural disasters, and the economic dependence on tourism. In the post-Covid-19 era, the government of Grenada therefore wants to develop more resilience by improving fiscal sustainability. Domestic resource mobilization is now more important than ever.
New World Bank Fund to Support Climate-Smart Mining for Energy Transition
The World Bank launched the Climate-Smart Mining Facility on May 1st, the first-ever fund dedicated to making mining for minerals climate-smart and sustainable. The Facility will support the sustainable extraction and processing of minerals and metals used in clean energy technologies, such as wind, solar power, and batteries for energy storage and electric vehicles. It focuses on helping resource-rich developing countries benefit from the increasing demand for minerals and metals, while ensuring the mining sector is managed in a way that minimizes the environmental and climate footprint.
The Netherlands, World Bank join forces to boost domestic resource mobilization in Africa, the Middle East
WASHINGTON DC, APRIL 11th, 2019.- Senior representatives of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the World Bank today signed an agreement for USD 7,000,000 to
support developing countries’ efforts in mobilizing much-needed public domestic resources to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in Africa and the Middle East.
The four-year agreement aims at boosting domestic resource mobilization while strengthening tax policy and administrative capacity in selected countries in North, Western, and Central Africa, as well as in the Middle-East. Some countries that may benefit from this agreement include: Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Côte D’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia, Kenya, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon.

Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands 2019) will involve implementation of the ES in the countries, collecting information about business environment and firm performance from a representative sample of private sector firms. The ES will require 600 face-to-face interviews in Belgium, 360 face-to-face interviews in Luxembourg and 800 face-to-face interviews in the Netherlands.
