IFC InfraVentures (InfraV) the IFC Global Infrastructure Project Development Fund was created to provide early-stage risk capital to help untangle hurdles associated to the design and early development of infrastructure projects in IDA countries, helping them achieve a stage where they can access international and multilateral financing. By partially providing funding for development costs, InfraV provides expertise in critical areas such as: (i) helping to create bankable project agreements; (ii) providing input on key technical studies and the offtake agreement; (iii) helping to negotiate key project agreements such as the power purchase, project development (concession) and EPC agreements; and (iv) guiding the consortium on completing Environmental and Social Impact Assessments compliant with good international practices such as those described in IFC Performance Standards, including timely and meaningful outreach and stakeholder engagement and consultation programs, adequate environmental and social pre-project baseline determination. IFC – To Develop Sustainable Hydropower in Asia, a Regional Approach Is Best

Seven hundred million people live without electricity in Asia. Several countries, including Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan, are tapping into their hydropower potentials to generate electricity for domestic consumption and exports, which will be a big boost to their economic development. To ensure the sustainability of such developments, IFC is working with both the public and private sectors to raise standards and enhance collaboration between the two sides.
“Hydropower demands are growing too fast to limit your scope to one country,” said Kate Lazarus, team leader for IFC’s Mekong sustainable hydropower program. “We’re approaching sustainability from an Asia-wide perspective.” Continue reading

IFC is looking to hire a survey firm to manage all aspects of a baseline household data collection, entry and management for a prospective, rigorous impact evaluation of two interventions: an outgrower scheme and employment of unskilled labor at a commercial farm. The purpose of the household surveys is to estimate the baseline wellbeing of smallholder farmers in the Salima province of Malawi, where the company operates. The baseline will be used to better understand the context of these farmers, and to measure the effects of their engagements with the company over time by comparing the results against a midline (September 2017) and an endline (September 2019) data collection. eConsultant2: International STC to support Lao PDR Nam Ou River Basin Profile Development and Training
IFC seeks to recruit a short term international consultant to support their Environmental and Social Hydropower Advisory Services Program in Lao PDR. The assignment aims to provide capacity building and training through the development and production of a river basin profile for the Nam Ou River Basin. The production of the river basin profile will be undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), Provincial Natural Resources and Environment Offices (PONRE), District Natural Resources and Environment Offices (DONRE) in the provinces of Phongsaly, Oudomxay and Luang Prabang and IFC (constituting the Core Team) as well as other relevant stakeholders where required.

The World Bank has recently published the Lesotho Systematic Country Diagnostic. A Systematic Country Diagnostic (SCD) informs each new country partnership. The diagnostic identifies the most important challenges and opportunities in a country, and serves as the basis for the World Bank’s engagement with a country.

Formative Program Evaluation of the Private Sector Window of the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP)
Three program level evaluations are planned for GAFSP PrSW, including a formative one, a mid-term one, and a summative one towards the end of the program. IFC is currently looking for a firm to conduct the formative evaluation of the GAFSP PrSW, and would like to invite interested firms with experience in program evaluations of private sector operations in the agribusiness sector to submit Expression of Interest. Advanced training in research methods required.

Study on Primary Care and Diagnostic Services in Emerging Markets
IFC is seeking to appoint a consultant to help identify growth markets and opportunities for IFC and IFC clients in the provision of primary care services and diagnostic services, in particular medical laboratories and medical imaging.
Objective: The overall objective of the study is for IFC to identify priority markets for IFC to target for investment primary care and diagnostics industries for the coming 5-10 years.

Heineken & IFC collaborate to expand Rwanda’s Bralirwa Brewery
On April 22, the World Bank Board of Directors approved a $25 million IFC investment in Brasserie et Limonaderies du Rwanda Ltd. (“Bralirwa”). Bralirwa is the leading beer brewer in Rwanda with more than six beer brands and seven Coca-Cola brands, and is owned for 75% by Heineken N.V., one of the largest brewers in the world.
The IFC’s senior loan is part of a larger 
investment of $50 million that supports the company’s capacity expansion program over the next few years.
eConsultant2: 2030 Water Resources Group: Knowledge Exchange – South Africa
In addition to knowledge-sharing through analytical work and case studies, 2030 WRG leverages its growing network of country partners to foster in-person exchange of knowledge and ideas. In the past, this has been achieved through dedicated 2030 WRG partner days at major events such as World Water Week. Later this year, we plan to expand this via an exchange to South Africa. The intention of this event is to enhance the sharing of knowledge and building of capacity around specific thematic topics. The purpose of selecting South Africa is to learn from the countrys efforts to address municipal water losses and mine-water management, topics which come up across a number of 2030 WRG country partnerships.
