On April 18th, 2018 the World Bank Group organized an all day deep dive on procurement for the PSLO’s at the Embassies. The World Bank Procurement Team highlighted the changes in the procurement framework and adressed different topics as Selection Methods for Goods, Works and Non-Consulting Services, Complaints Handling, and Standard Procurement Documents.

Smart Cities MoU between The Institute for Future of Living and World Bank
The Institute for Future of Living (previously GSC3) signed a partnership agreement with the World Bank in India on May 24, 2018. The goal of this partnership is to create a strong partnership to support global Smart City development in conjunction with implementing the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The agreement will become activated in the coming months in close collaboration with Dutch businesses and government.

eC2: Energy Access Household Survey in Madagascar

The World Bank-ESMAP team is launching the first Global Energy Access Household Surveys to set a baseline to track progress towards Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) goal and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 7 on access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy by 2030. A reputed local firm with extensive experience in household surveys is sought to conduct the baseline survey on energy access using the multi-tier framework approach to track progress towards SDG7 . The survey will be nationally representative and administered to both urban and rural localities. The firm will work with the World Bank-ESMAP to pre-test, finalize and implement the survey. Data collection should be carefully monitored to ensure high quality information.

In the context of strained public finances and limited borrowing capacity for developing countries, there is growing debate on the roles of public and private actors to deliver the trillions of dollars of infrastructure necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). On one hand, high-profile public-private partnership (PPP) project failures have cast doubt about the viability of the model. On the other hand, while public authorities are ultimately responsible for the delivery of public services, deficient infrastructure services in some countries have raised concerns about the ability of the public sector to deliver on its own.

Develop a publication targeting CEOs of African tertiary education institutions, Executives in the Technology and other relevant sectors and African policy makers. The effort will have a specific focus on Ghana. The objective of the publication is to showcase best-in-class private sector-led practices promoting Digital Skills, advancing the understanding of what are the relevant digital skills that need to be promoted, and how to best integrate the delivery of digital skills into the curriculum through specific, innovative offerings. The focus will be on skills needed at the post-secondary level, including upskilling / reskilling needs for working adults, with an emphasis on lifelong learning. The digital economy in Ghana, and more broadly across Africa, needs a digitally skilled workforce that masters basic functional digital skills at minimum with some acquiring high level skills like coding and software development capabilities.

Unrealized Potential: The High Cost of Gender Inequality in Earnings is the first in a series of reports that aim to measure the global economic costs of gender inequality. This first report measures these losses in lifetime earnings.
In many countries, girls’ average educational attainment remains lower than boys and adult women are less literate than men. Apart from these gender gaps in educational attainment, discrimination and social norms shape the terms of female labor force participation. Women are less likely than men to join the labor force and to work for pay. When they do, they are more likely to work part-time, in the informal sector, or in occupations that have lower pay. These disadvantages translate into substantial gender gaps in earnings, which in turn decrease women’s bargaining power and voice.
eC2: Project Officer: Empowering Women in the Private Sector

The objective of this assignment is to provide on-the-ground coordination and implementation support for IFCs gender team to ensure Project activities are delivered in a timely manner and objectives are achieved. The appointment is for an initial probationary period of 60 working days. It is expected that upon satisfactory completion of the probation period the contract will be extended up to 150 days per year upon agreement between IFC and the Project Officer. The position can be filled on a part-time (3 days per week or shorter work hours 5 days per week) basis.

eC2: Sustainable Lowland Agriculture in Indonesia

This study forms an important part of the World Bank’s Indonesia Landscapes Program. With many of the peatlands drained and in a state of degradation, rural livelihoods need to adapt to new threats and opportunities within the landscape. Given the government’s plans to restore currently drained and occupied lowland areas, an assessment is needed to identify potential alternative crops and sustainable production systems that are appropriate for smallholders in the affected lowlands. The outcomes of the analysis would inform an important policy discussion among the various government institutions, including the Ministries of Agriculture and Public Works and the Peatland Restoration Agency, to shape the business case for improved management of natural resources in Indonesia’s lowlands.
eC2: Remote sensing of Agricultural Land Use in Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Lviv Oblasts, Ukraine

- Identification of preliminary classification of land cover, development of list of spectral characteristics and a rout for field data collection for typical representatives of each class, in order to develop training data. Preprocessing of available satellite imagery (radiometric calibration and correction, noise filtering, etc.) for the territory of Kyiv oblast for summer 2017 and 2018.
- Collection of training data and validation sample; establish spectral library for the categories of land cover in Kyiv oblast.
- Processing of satellite imagery (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Landsat-8) for recognition of information on actual land use, development of descriptive statistics for the categories of land cover in Kyiv oblast, estimation of NDVI, identification of irrigated land.
