Kampala, Uganda— Cellphone usage is expanding in Sub-Saharan Africa, and paving the way for information and communication technologies (ICT) to modernize and boost productivity in the region’s agricultural sector. Apps like Kilimo Salama, which provides farmers with updated climate data, as well as Vet Africa, which helps diagnose livestock diseases, are already transforming farmers’ lives in Sub-Saharan Africa. Up to 90% of farmers polled by e-Learning Africa credit ICT with improving food security in their region.

Multilateral development agencies from around the world have collaborated to produce the PPP Knowledge Lab, the first comprehensive online resource that pools the knowledge and experience of industry leaders in public-private partnerships (PPPs).

The main objectives of this project are to (a) inform the authorities in Chittagong of 
measures to improve its urban transport system through the development of a master plan, and (b) prepare pre-feasibility studies for bus improvement projects as priority investment. These objectives will be achieved by conducting a thorough review of existing transport policies and projects, carrying out travel demand and traffic studies, developing a strategic-level urban transport master plan, developing a pre-feasibility study for short-term and long-term priority interventions, and developing an institutional restructuring proposal for an efficient and quality public bus service in Chittagong, and for transport management in general.

The Water GP will hire a firm to undertake a (institutional, organizational, technical and 
financial) study on 4-6 urban Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) utilities (EPS) that serve Perus intermediate cities. The study will address the key challenges the cities face concerning WSS service provision to ensure water underpins the development of the intermediate cities as the new growth poles. The work will propose reforms of the EPS management models and develop Business Plans for each EPS.

In 2015 the World Bank Group developed the Report on Recommended PPP Contractual 
Provisions, 2015 Edition which was published in August 2015 and presents the first attempt by any of the Multilateral Development Banks to prepare a compilation of recommended contractual language for PPP agreements. In response to the industry feedback received on the contents of the 2015 Report during internal and external stakeholder consultations following its publication, it is now intended to continue this very successful initiative and to engage an international law firm to prepare a new version of this report, namely the Report on Recommended PPP Contractual Provisions, 2016 Edition (2016 Report).
