Industrial robots, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence are rapidly changing the face of 
global production and trade. Global sales of industrial robots reached a new record of 387,000 units last year and robot adoption is projected to grow in the coming years. Techno-pessimists fear that developing countries might lose the opportunity to export themselves out of poverty by linking into Global Value Chains (GVCs), as firms in rich countries relocate robot-driven production closer to home.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC part of the World Bank Group) is in preliminary discussions with the Government of Northern Macedonia, assess the bankability and support the development of a greenfield pumped-storage hydropower plant. Within the context of this potential engagement, IFC expects the need to perform a least-cost electricity generation and storage assessment of Northern Macedonia and neighboring countries, and economic analysis of the proposed project, and is seeking expressions of interest from experienced technical consultants (or consortia of consultants) with experience in electricity market design / assessment and renewable power generation.
eC2: Sustainable agri-practices in Ganga basin districts of UP

The consultant will organize 2 workshops each in Varanasi (Location 1) and Sambhal (Location 2) districts of Uttar Pradesh, i.e. a total of 4 workshops. The two workshops in each location comprise (1) Workshop with farmers, community members, local representatives, and (2) Workshop with local government representatives, civil society, private sector and other stakeholders, respectively. The consultant will design the workshops, identify and invite appropriate participants, manage logistics of the workshops, and submit a detailed report to the World Bank documenting discussions in detail and highlighting key takeaways in line with the objectives. The consultant will be hired for a period of 12 weeks.
Changing impact of weather and climate services in response to changing climate
Have you ever wondered what your national meteorological agency actually does? I 
suppose it wouldn’t be inaccurate to say that they can help you decide how to dress, whether or not to carry an umbrella, or water the garden. But their purpose is so much bigger than that.
National meteorological and hydrological services (NMHSs) are responsible for helping people understand, predict and warn of weather- and water-related hazards such as storms, floods, and hurricanes.
Moonshot Africa and jobs
Is new technology “transformative” or “disruptive”? I’ve heard this topic hotly debated 
at meetings both within the World Bank and more broadly. The issue is not just linguistic hair-splitting. Technology optimists prefer the first term and see new technologies, digitization in particular, as an opportunity for low-income developing countries to leapfrog into the 21st century. Moonshot Africa, an ambitious World Bank initiative to connect individuals, firms, and governments in Africa to fast internet is inspired by this vision. Technology pessimists on the other hand emphasize the disruptive effects digital technologies are expected to have on labor markets. Concerns about robots and algorithms replacing human labor increasingly dominate the public debate not only in advanced economies, but also in emerging and developing economies. Against this background, it is natural to ask how these two views are compatible. To be more specific: How will Moonshot Africa create jobs on a continent where job creation is needed more than anywhere else in the world with Africa’s working-age population projected to rise by 70% in the next twenty years?
eC2: West Africa Coastal Areas (WACA) Program: Call for innovation to Private Sector Engineering Firms

Launched by the World Bank in partnership with IFC, the WACA Call for Innovation will try to seek solutions for the six WACA countries to reduce the impacts on down drift coastal erosion of port infrastructures, either by retrofitting existing port infrastructures or by building new ones. The solutions can be both passive (a proper design of ports) or active (with e.g. a sand by-pass system). The solutions must ensure their feasibility in the West Africa coastline context.

eC2: DATA FOR ROAD INCIDENT VISUALIZATION, EVALUATION, AND REPORTING (DRIVER) ENHANCEMENTS

eC2: Core Capacities for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)

The World Bank, under its Early Learning Program, is providing support for strengthening early grade reading under the Early Works Programs. The key objective being to support the capacity building of a work force of competent instructors ready to prepare prospective ECCE teachers. They are expected to prepare teachers who will appreciate and support all domains of child development in a school set-up. The support builds on the achievements of the Revitalizing Education Development in Sierra Leone under which 300 ECCE teachers were trained and follow-up coaching and mentoring is currently ongoing. The grant will support the development of new courses by adding globally recognized content, methodologies, strategies and materials. The program will also support coaching and mentoring for the college instructors to improve their instructional practices. The key objectives of the consultancy are to (i)upgrade course content and (ii) coaching and mentoring of students and staff.
10 Years of Green Bonds: Creating the Blueprint for Sustainability Across Capital Markets
The phone call to the World Bank Treasury came out of the blue: in late 2007, a group of 
Swedish pension funds wanted to invest in projects that help the climate, but they did not know how to find these projects. But they knew where to turn and called on the World Bank to help. Less than a year later, the World Bank issued the first green bond—and with it, created a new way to connect financing from investors to climate projects.
