The primary objective of this Consultancy is to take stock of baseline information for plastic waste leakage into rivers and seas to build a more harmonized regional monitoring, management, and policy framework for plastic waste reduction and enable a more circular economy model for plastics in the South Asia Region. The proposed assignment will document the current status of plastic pollution and its value chain (e.g. hotspots for marine plastic debris, waste composition, material flow of waste plastics), regulatory gap analysis, and identification of relevant stakeholders involved in the life-cycle of plastic and their needs, and possible recycling technology and innovations, etc.

ACCRA, August 13, 2020 – Adwoa Adezawa lives on the Cape Coast of Ghana near the Elmina fishing port on the Atlantic coast. Her husband is a fisherman, and each day he must travel farther to find fish. However, the most difficult part of their life as a family, she said, has been the complete absence of electricity. Until recently, her entire community lived without power.

With a strong push for solar energy from the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, life for thousands of Ghanaians is beginning to change. The $220 million Ghana Energy and Development Access Project (GEDAP) is among the first Bank-financed programs to focus on inclusive access to renewable energy through off-grid solar services and products.

The consultancy primary objective is to provide professional expertise to develop a comprehensive urban resilience plan for the select coastal cities in Guyana, which aims to,
1.Study approaches for improving urban infrastructure planning to achieve resilience goals in coastal cities for the sustainable concurrence of the urban space with natural environment;
2.Help urban practitioners better understand the integration of green with existing grey infrastructure and contextually inform citiesplanning strategies; and
3.Forge an urban vision to identify infrastructure need and investment opportunities for the cities in the selected coastal areas.
Scope of Work
As part of the EU-GFDRR/WB Regional Resilience Program for LAC, the project will focus on carrying out diagnostic work related to urban resilience in selected coastal cities in Guyana. The main objective is to develop an integrated vision for building resilience and sustainability into infrastructure.

Global Gas Flaring Jumps to Levels Last Seen in 2009

WASHINGTON, July 21, 2020 — Estimates from satellite data show global gas flaring gasincreased to levels not seen in more than a decade, to 150 billion cubic meters (bcm), equivalent to the total annual gas consumption of Sub-Saharan Africa.

The 3% rise, from 145 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2018 to 150 bcm in 2019, was mainly due to increases in three countries: the United States (up by 23%), Venezuela (up by 16%), and Russia (up by 9%). Gas flaring in fragile or conflict-affected countries increased from 2018 to 2019: in Syria by 35% and in Venezuela by 16%, despite oil production flattening in Syria and declining by 40% in Venezuela.

The purpose of this assignment is to deliver a proposal of an Inland Waterway Strategic Plan (IWSP) for Argentina, addressing the Paraguay-Parana-Uruguay-Rio de la Plata waterway. It will encompass all the technical, economic and institutional aspects, deemed relevant to achieve an efficient operation of the waterway, identifying and exploiting every opportunity for improvement. These topics will include at least the following: the economically convenient draft to be achieved in each section; economically viable interventions aimed at reducing congestion and delays; the proper sizing of the interventions, taking into account future trends regarding the design of the vessels. The IWSPs horizon will be at least the next 20 years, although it may be increased, if both the team and the Task Team Leader agree.
