eC2: Climate Assessment of Agricultural Certification Programs

IFCs Strategy is to contribute to CSA by providing investments and advisory operations that contribute to these three pillars of CSA. One possible way of doing this is by using appropriate agribusiness certification programs to ensure that climate-smart standards are being achieved. In order to use crop certifications as a proxy for climate co-benefits, IFC needs to assess whether the referred certification programs and their audit protocols are sufficient to conclude that agribusiness practices contribute to mitigation of, or adaptation to climate change, as defined by the IFCs Definitions and Metrics for Climate-Related Activities. In this context IFC intends to contract with a respected, knowledgeable third-party organization that will review popular crop certification programs and provide a clear assessment and recommendation of which certification programs would also imply positive climate impact (mitigation and/or adaptation)

The West Africa Agricultural Productivity Program (WAAPP) - Ghan

Mali Shi is a new entrant in the global shea sector in Mali. Its founders opened the Bamako-headquartered company after gaining many years of experience in the industrial manufacturing sector, where they are leading experts in the manufacture and distribution of batteries. IFC Mali Shi Advisory Project is designed to enhance Mali Shis operational efficiencies through the introduction of digital tools (Ag Tech), thereby improving smallholder farmers (SHFs) productivity and income. By the end of the project, we expect 10,000 SHFs to be engaged with AgTech solutions. Malishi, with IFC support, is seeking for a Consulting firm to help introduce IT based system to help Malishi to procure shea nuts and strengthen its relationships with local farmers, assist farmers in managing their farm, provide traceability, improve efficiency in onsite data collection including crop forecasting, and strengthen sustainability of the project.

eC2: Market Assessment of the Temperature-Controlled Logistics (TCL) in Thailand

This Assignment is a market study for TCL services sector in Thailand. TCL services would include transportation/storage/distribution, together with other value-added services, of food/perishable products in a temperature-controlled environment.

The main objectives of the Assignment are to:
i. determine the existing and future demand and supply for TCL services along the entire value chain for several sub sectors requiring such services such as agribusiness, supermarkets, dairy, meats, quick foods, seafood, pharmaceuticals etc. and the extent of inhouse versus independent TCL service providers (3PL players) in this space
ii. carry out a comprehensive analysis of the margin structure and economics of the value chain
iii. determine the key constraints and growth drivers for these services as well as for increased outsourcing of such services to 3PL players, and
iv. recommend strategies which could be followed for establishing a new TCL service operation in Thailand, especially private sector involvement and help IFC identify leading operators in this space, that may be candidates for potential financing to support their growth plans.

eC2: Offshore Wind Financing for Emerging Markets

The objective of this assignment is to assist IFC staff (primarily investment, credit and management) in understanding: 1) differences between offshore wind and onshore solar/wind/hydro projects in terms of risks, challenges, contractual structures, studies and financing structures, and; 2) potential project financing structures for offshore wind in emerging markets and how IFC can best mitigate any associated risks. Note that the analysis of current projects will focus on fixed foundation rather than floating or intertidal/nearshore projects. The analysis of future projects will consider floating, although to a lesser extent than fixed.

eC2: Short Term Consultant: Blue Economy – Industry Specialist

IFC is seeking an experienced Short-Term Consultant (STC) specialized in blue economy and bilingual in English and Mandarin, to support the development and implementation of a successful Blue Finance Pilot for IFC. This assignment is estimated to require a maximum of thirty (30) working days and a maximum of 3 trips, from the period from August 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. The contract might be further extended depending on business need and performance. The STC will work with a multi-disciplinary team led by the Project Leader in Beijing. The STC will be based in Beijing, with some domestic travels together with IFC team.

NL Success: IFC TechEmerge East-Africa

We are excited to announce 3 Dutch Companies are shortlisted for the IFC TechEmerge Health East-Africa: Qtracer, CarePay and SwyMed.index

53 tech companies from 20 countries that have been selected to attend the virtual TechEmerge Health East Africa Innovation Summit (date to be confirmed; possibly Aug/Sept. 2020).

In total, over 415 tech companies from 50 countries applied to the TechEmerge Health East Africa program. Applications went through a competitive evaluation process supported by a global network of  ~30 independent expert advisors. 53 tech companies across multiple categories were identified to have market-relevant solutions that may meet the needs of participating East Africa healthcare providers (“Providers”). There are ~25 leading Providers in Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia participating in the program, serving over 6.5 million patients across 285+ facilities, with 2,850 beds.
