PURPOSE
These Terms of Reference (ToR) are for a Consultant (Firm) to implement a baseline quantitative data collection for a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) in Mozambique.
The primary goal of this consultancy is to collect data on the entrepreneurial behavior, business success, and the personal and household attitudes and behavior of 1,700 women business owners that form part of this study, and on 850 spouses/partners/significant others of 850 of the 1,700 women business owners, for a total of 2,550 surveys.
This data collection will be conducted in the context of the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) Bottom-up vs. top-down interventions to foster female entrepreneurship in Mozambique. The evaluation will be led by the World Banks Africa Gender Innovation Lab; the World Bank Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation Global Practice; the University of Warwick and Leuphana University of Lueneburg (henceforth the World Bank research team). The analysis of the data collected will be conducted by the World Bank research team, not the Consultant.

COVID-19 vaccines presents challenges unprecedented in scale, speed and specificities, especially in low- and middleincome countries. In November 2020, anticipating the availability of safe and effective vaccines for COVID-19, the World  Bank together with WHO, UNICEF, the Global Fund, and Gavi rolled out readiness assessments in more than 100 low and middle-income countries.

eC2: Private sector diagnostic in the waste sector in Morocco, Egypt and Jordan

IFC is seeking a firm or a consortium of firms (‘the Consultant”) to identify and assess potential waste sector opportunities in both the near and medium-term for IFC and private sector financing in Morocco, Egypt and Jordan.

As such, the Consultant is expected to conduct:

(1) A review of the institutional and regulatory frameworks in Morocco, Egypt and Jordan for possible private sector involvement and subnational financing in the waste sector;

(2) A market assessment that includes a mapping of existing and future solid waste projects in Morocco, Egypt and Jordan; and

(3) A preliminary review (including technical and commercial criteria) of selected projects.

2020 Annual Meetings

The coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc around the world and dealt a major setback to WBLdecades of development outcomes.

Taking place fully virtually this year, the World Bank Group/IMF Annual Meetings will center around “Supporting a Resilient Recovery.” Leaders from government, business, international organizations and civil society along with a diverse group of experts, will discuss the path ahead for developing countries.

The Meetings will take place from October 12 to 18.

How AI can help developing countries rebuild after the pandemic

Technology has been a lifeline to developing countries during the COVID-19 crisis, helping to ug-business owner uses her phone for mobile banking-Anna Koblanck IFCmaintain essential services and keep companies in business. It has also offered a glimpse of a brighter future, one in which gains in income and employment are driven by technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Even before the pandemic, commercial uses for AI were expanding rapidly in emerging markets, in fields ranging from manufacturing and energy to education and financial services. The necessary lockdowns and travel restrictions imposed by countries have accelerated that trend. Companies like Clinicas de Azucar in Mexico are using AI to analyze data and improve health outcomes for thousands of at-risk diabetic patients. In India, 1mg uses AI to help customers compare prices for medical services from different labs.

eC2: Climate Assessment of Agricultural Certification Programs

IFCs Strategy is to contribute to CSA by providing investments and advisory operations that contribute to these three pillars of CSA. One possible way of doing this is by using appropriate agribusiness certification programs to ensure that climate-smart standards are being achieved. In order to use crop certifications as a proxy for climate co-benefits, IFC needs to assess whether the referred certification programs and their audit protocols are sufficient to conclude that agribusiness practices contribute to mitigation of, or adaptation to climate change, as defined by the IFCs Definitions and Metrics for Climate-Related Activities. In this context IFC intends to contract with a respected, knowledgeable third-party organization that will review popular crop certification programs and provide a clear assessment and recommendation of which certification programs would also imply positive climate impact (mitigation and/or adaptation)
