Handbook Doing Business with the World Bank Group and fact sheets

The Netherlands embassy in Washington, D.C. published the handbook, “Zakendoen met de Wereldbank Groep” to provide interested Dutch companies and organizations a basichandleiding introduction to the World Bank Group. We have updated the handbook with new information on the current procurement framework. Besides the handbook we also created fact sheets which include information on project cycles as well as Bank jargon which will be good to know when working with the World Bank Group.

The overall objective is to improve the quality and effectiveness of joint flood and drought management and forecasting capacities in the SRB. This particular projects component aims at fostering cooperation among the countries which share the Sava RB through preparation of the Sava FRMP. Sava FRMP shall ensure a coordinated planning of measures and support the implementation of joint activities of the countries cooperating in SRB aimed at creating the conditions for sustainable flood protection in the basin.

The overall objective of this Assignment is to support the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CoESCD) under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in increasing the institutional capacity and effectiveness of risk identification and emergency preparedness and response operations, by conducting a capacity and needs assessment and developing a roadmap for various departments within the CoESCD that are involved in risk identification and emergency preparedness and response, such as the Information Management Analytical Center, Crisis Management Center, Search and Rescue Center, and the Methodical-Training Center.

eC2:Mozambique Agricultural Aggregator Pilot

This pilot will engage a program manager to (a) select around 8 existing agricultural aggregator schemes in Mozambique and support them with subsidies to incorporate around 4,800 additional out-growers (in total);and (b) design and implement a rigorous cost-benefit evaluation of the financial and economic sustainability of the schemes and of their impact on job creation and farmer incomes, over a 30 month period. The program manager will work in close cooperation with a supervisory committee of World Bank Group staff and technical experts, who will sign off on the choice of aggregators, the amount of incremental subsidy per new out-grower incorporated; and on the evaluation methodology.

Reconstructed Village Canal Boosts Crop Output in Rural Community

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Farmers in a rural community in Kandahar Province are seeing an increase in landproductivity since the rehabilitation of the village’s NSP (National Solidarity Program)water canal.
  • The project to improve and extend the village water canal was supported by the National Solidarity Programme of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development the Government of Afghanistan’s flagship program for rural development. Around 3,877 mall-scale development projects in Kandahar Province have been carried out in areas such as water and sanitation, irrigation, electricity, transportation, education, livelihoods and rural development.
  • NSP is supported by the International Development Association, the World Bank Group’s fund for the poorest countries, Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund, and Japan Social Development Fund
