November 14-18, Asia Smart City Conference Yokohama, Japan.

Starting from 2012, City Yokohama invites mayors from emerging Asian countries and international organizations to the Asia Smart City Conference. As part of the conference this year, the Tokyo Development Learning Center and the Smart Cities KSB will organize a Smart City Technical Deep Dive and one-day World Bank Smart City Summit. IFC Launches Web Portal to Boost Off-Grid Access, Renewable Energy Production in Tanzania

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, August 11, 2016 — IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, today announced the launch of a web portal to speed the development of mini-grids in Tanzania, helping the country boost its energy production and increase access to electricity through renewable sources such as solar and hydro.  

The portal, found at
http://www.minigrids.go.tz/, provides licensing, financing, regulatory, and other information and support to small, renewable power producers in Tanzania who want to sell electricity to consumers, especially to the millions in the country not connected to the main grid.

New Procurement Framework and Regulations for Projects After July 1, 2016

The World Bank has a new, modern and business-friendly Procurement Framework. This i-love-procurement2modernized approach means greater focus on value for money, more ways bidders to differentiate bids, and more opportunities for dialogue and discussion.

World Bank procurement staff are based in 72 countries to support borrowers throughout the procurement process. Staff work with governments to achieve the highest bidding and contract management standards to get the best development result.

New country classifications by income level

Each year on July 1, the analytical classification of the world’s economies based on donutestimates of gross national income (GNI) per capita for the previous year is revised. As of 1 July 2016, low-income economies are defined as those with a GNI per capita, calculated using the World Bank Atlas method, of $1,025 or less in 2015; lower middle-income economies are those with a GNI per capita between $1,026 and $4,035; upper middle-income economies are those with a GNI per capita between $4,036 and $12,475; high-income economies are those with a GNI per capita of $12,476 or more. The updated GNI per capita estimates are also used as input to the World Bank’s operational guidelines that determines lending eligibility.
