Strategy for Fragility, Conflict and Violence (FCV)

The World Bank Group is developing its first strategy for Fragility, Conflict and Violence fragilityforum_logo(FCV). The overarching objective of the strategy is to address the drivers of FCV in affected countries and their impact on vulnerable populations, with the ultimate goal of contributing to peace and prosperity. The final strategy will seek to guide and systematize the World Bank Group’s work in FCV contexts over the next five years.

eC2: Development of the Urban Nature-Based Solutions Rapid Assessment Tool

The Urban NBS Rapid Assessment will facilitate World Bank task teams in these challenges. The tool or assessment methodology will increase understanding of the performance of urban NBS and helps to identify potential investments in NBS in cities. The tool can be used in the early (pre-feasibility) stage of a project, to support dialogue with client countries and during community consultations, rather than as a design tool. The main audience of the tool will be city governments, project leaders and development partners, who will be investing in urban development interventions.

The newsletter ‘Energy for Development ‘headlines with why the Business Opportunities Fair (BOF) with a focus on climate-smart energy was a success for Dutch company BladeRunner Energy. The BOF was co-hosted by the World Bank Group Liaison officers took place in Washington, D.C. | October 29-31. BladeRunner did not have any previous experience with the World Bank Group or any other IFI before having attended this event, which had over 160 participants from around the world. At the end of the 2.5-day program BladeRunner Energy CEO Paul Vosbeek left with a stack of business cards, new potential investors/partners and a comprehensive plan on how to approach not only the World Bank Group but also other IFIs. For those who were not able to attend we have shared a Business Opportunities Fair recap as well as the presentations.

eC2: TOOLKIT FOR GENDER EQUALITY IN THE OFF-GRID SOLAR SECTOR

ESMAP seeks to hire the services of a firm to develop an interactive and dynamic Gender Equality and Off-grid Solar Toolkit, which will (i) provide operational support to WBG task teams during engagement with client governments and the development of WB lending operations in the off-grid energy sector, and deepen the focus on (ii) off-grid and the womens segment (both consumers and enterprises), and (iii) enhancing productive uses of energy (PUE) with a focus on female farmers and female businesses. Target audience for the Toolkit are WB Task Teams, development institutions, financial intermediaries, MFIs and the private sector. This research will aim to reshape the design of off-grid solar energy projects to enhance gender equality by developing new tools that teams can easily use in early conversations with client counterparts in implementation and supervision.
