Rwanda has made remarkable progress since the civil war and genocide that started in October 1990 and ended in July 1994. GDP per capita increased from US$228 in 1995 to US$718 in 2014. The poverty headcount ratio using the national poverty line fell from 78% in 1995 to 45% in 2010/11.

The Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE), organized by the World Bank Development Economics (DEC) Vice Presidency, is one of the world’s best known series of conferences for the presentation and discussion of new knowledge on development. The conference aims to promote the exchange of cutting-edge research among researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners. The next conference will take place on June 20-21, 2016 at World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The theme of the conference will be “Data and Development.”
Every year at the end of spring as the summer is about to be upon us the Netherlands Embassy World Bank Group and Inter-American Development Bank Liaisons organize the annual networking event “Klompen Cup” (Pictures). It is a street soccer 4-on-4 tournament, 10 minute games played right outside the embassy. We assemble teams with (Dutch) colleagues from the respective institutions; WB, IFC, IADB, and IMF to compete for the coveted “Klompen Cup”. 
The tournament is not only for the soccer-addicts – everyone is invited, and even encouraged, to join in. We welcome anyone as a player, but spectators are very much welcome as well. Extra incentives to support a team (or to just watch a few games) are the drinks and snacks served on the second level of the parking garage, overlooking the playing field as well as the ample opportunity to network with Dutch staff from the different institutions.
We thought that this year we would share the pictures with you…and if you are ever in Washington, D.C. at the end of May / beginning of June let us know!

This assignment aims at supporting Rivers State to conduct an assessment of the urban sanitation situation for the city of Port Harcourt and to develop appropriate sanitation solutions for improving the 
standard of fecal sludge removal, transport and disposal services by developing sustainable and affordable fecal sludge management solutions at city level and in low incomes areas. These solutions will inform the future development of a comprehensive and integrated sanitation master plan for the whole city. The present assignment is divided into two (2) components as follows: Component 1: Updated diagnostics and preliminary recommendations at city level and in low income areas; and, Component 2: Detailed pilot project design in selected areas.

cadre are required to cope with the workload of a given health facility and catchment area, as well as to assess the workload pressure of the health workers in that facility. This data collection will not only occur in the facilities themselves but also in the catchment areas where the facilities are located. The WISN data collection in the catchment areas will seek to document the roles of community-based and volunteer workers delivering HIV prevention and treatment services and detail how that links to broader primary care delivery efforts in the respective regions.

T&C is currently in the process of developing a set of learning materials and tools that will
help World Bank Task Team Leaders (TTLs) with designing and implementing agribusiness SME projects. Over the past few years, key insights on the topic have been gained from field-based implementations, research and dialogue internally and externally to the WBG. T&C is therefore currently seeking to develop 1) a diagnostic framework to identify the opportunities for- , and challenges and needs of SMEs in the agribusiness sector; 2) a training module on agribusiness SME development, 3) a business modeling toolkit for Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Centers (AECs); and 4) an Operational Manual for AECs. While deliverables 1 and 2 will focus broadly on agribusiness SMEs outside the farm gate, deliverables 3 and 4 will focus on agro-processing primarily food processing SMEs specifically.

The objective of this assignment is to support the GoP in the formulation of the RRSP program through the technical and logistic preparation of the development of the Business Case & Knowledge, Scope, Content & Approach, Execution Processes & Modalities, Monitoring & Evaluation Framework, and Consultative Process.
The firm will liaise between the GoP and the World Bank and other Development Partners through close interaction and engagement with the inter-agency RRSP Steering Committee and the inter-agency Technical Working Groups and DENR Program Development Secretariat.
