The global energy landscape is undergoing a major transformation. This year’s 
Innovate4Climate (I4C) will have a priority focus on battery storage, helping to identify ways to overcome the technology, policy and financing barriers to deploy batteries widely and close the global energy storage gap.

Lighting Africa is a joint World Bank/IFC program launched in 2007 to accelerate the 
development of markets for modern off grid lighting and energy products in Africa where majority of the population use expensive, hazardous and low quality fuel- based lighting products. The program was piloted in Kenya and Ghana but has now been replicated in 10 countries across Africa (including Tanzania) and Asia.
Tanzania has continued to face grid expansion challenges with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals estimating 40% of the countries total population and only 10% of rural households have access to electricity.
The program is seeking a market research firm to assess the development of the solar off-grid lighting market in Tanzania covering but not limited to: the supply chain (retailers) carrying the products; their penetration in the rural market; estimated market share of quality verified products; an overview of the after sales service structure; and innovative business models e.g. Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGo) etc. that are in the market.
