Assignment Title: 1262415 – Development of national methodologies for assessment of the hydromorphological status of surface water bodies (SWB) of category rivers, lakes and transitional waters, surveying of hydro-morphological quality elements, testing and validation of methodologies and assessment of the hydromorphological status of SWBs.

This assignment aims at the development of a national methodology for identification and designation of HMWBs by further development of the existing national approach and adaptation of most recent international best practices. The methodology should comply with the Water Framework Directive and the relevant Common Implementation Strategy Guidance documents and should simultaneously consider the local specifics and the identified deficiencies during the previous cycles of River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs). It should largely (at this stage for 3rd RBMP) be based on available data regarding the various modifications and any appraisal guidance for them and any findings of such appraisals. A testing of the methodology with application of the “mitigation measures” methods for all types of physical modifications and uses of the surface water bodies is planned within the frame of the assignment by the use of readily available data.

Vietnam is urbanizing at a rapid pace. Cities, particularly those in low-lying delta areas are especially vulnerable to extreme weather events and impact of climate change. The rapid pace of urbanization is expected to intensify the economic costs related to extreme events. Urbanization in Vietnam has also been accompanied by rising air and water pollution, inadequate solid waste management and wastewater treatment, urban sprawl, and loss of green space threatening urban livability. Cities are also major users of energy and major contributors of GHG emissions. The proposed activity is being carried out in collaboration with the Government of Vietnam to enhance climate smart urbanization in the country.

The assignment will be for the implementation of a follow-up study that includes household and health facility-based surveys. The large-scale surveys will be fielded in the first quarter of 2020 in the provinces of Kwango, Kwilu, Mai-Ndombe, Haut-Katanga, Haut-Lomami, Lualaba and Tanganyika. Preparatory work will start in the third quarter of 2019. The firm will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigators on all aspects related the implementation of the survey. The health facility survey will be conducted in health centers and general referral hospitals. It will include facility level assessment, health worker interviews, observations of patient-provider interactions and patient exit interviews. Household surveys will be conducted in the catchment areas of each of the surveyed facilities. They will cover demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the households and behaviors related to reproductive, maternal and child health. During the household visits, the survey teams will also collect anthropometric data on women and children.

The Government of Angola (GoA) has requested support from the World Bank Group to complete a National Electrification Analysis (NEA), addressing all key aspects of investment planning, institutional and contracting arrangements, and needed financing and regulations for providing reliable electricity service, ultimately achieving the national electricity access targets. Thus, the World Bank Group is seeking to hire a consulting firm or consortium to help complete the NEA. The scope of work encompasses: (a) preparation of a geographic information system (GIS)-based database; (b) identification of least-cost electrification options based on different locations/density levels/electricity needs; and (c) identification of suitable implementation options for scaling up electrification in Angola in line with national electricity access targets.

The objective of the research is to assess the extent to which CGAPs efforts were successful in influencing and contributing to the development of early applications of digital payments for the delivery of services such as solar energy, education and water in developing countries. The assignment will consist of an in-depth review and assessment of the CGAPs influence in the off-grid solar energy sector, and a more limited assessment for the education and water industries. The research will include a mix of secondary and primary research.
