eC2: CONSULTANCY – TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE PREPARATION OF A VEGETATION STUDY

The objective of this assignment (the Services) is to assist the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) to develop an effective vegetation study and management plan. This is to ensure that the utility is able to better manage vegetation growth near and under its utilitys lines, and prevent any physically damaging incident with minimal losses, in particular during storms. The plan has to be implemented in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner and be in full compliance with Belizes and the World Banks environmental and social policies and regulations. The specific objectives are: (i) to assess the limitations and capacities of BEL personnel and physical inventory, whether positive or negative, and propose mitigation measures which will effectively address the response time; (ii) identify different alternatives and their potential impacts and relevant mitigation measures; and (iii) to establish clear directives and methodologies for the effective implementation of the plan. The indicative implementation period for the Services is April 2017 March 2019.

eC2: Senior Water & Sanitation Specialist

The India Senior Water and Sanitation Consultant will work closely with the EWS team to identify opportunities for water related interventions that could be implemented by the private sector. The initial focus will be on Indian cities targeted for sustainable urban development under a parallel Eco-Cities program; these are Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, and Mumbai. However, the STCs scope of work will not be limited to these cities but also include others where viable water management opportunities can be identified. The consultant will report to the EWS Global Water Lead (based in Dhaka) but also work closely with the EWS Regional Lead for South Asia, the Eco-Cities Program Manager, and the New Delhi based Public Private Partnership (PPP) Team to identify potential opportunities in the Indian water sector.

eC2: GAFSP Poverty Assessments

IFC is looking for a Consultant to help assess the impact of two GAFSP/IFC projects in Tanzania/Senegal , investments in two banks in Tanzania/Senegal to support their agriculture finance business. These are two separate, stand-alone, assessments. The reason they are included in this same selection is that IFC prefers to have one Consultant conduct both assessments given that they are in the same country. The methodology is expected to be quasi-experimental design with quantitative and qualitative data collection. The Consultant is expected to have extensive experience in conducting impact evaluations in the agribusiness sector in developing countries.

These focus on the practical implementation of the Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers, the new procurement documents, and enhanced procurement processes. Better Neighbors: Toward a Renewal of Economic Integration in Latin America, argues that a renewed integration strategy that takes advantage of the complementarities between regional and global economic integration can contribute to growth with stability. This is particularly relevant for a region that is just coming out of two years of recession.

What was true more than a century ago holds true today: no country, organization or economy can achieve its potential without the full and equal participation of women and men. Eliminating barriers that discriminate against women not only leads to economic growth, it also benefits men and boys, families, businesses, and entire communities.

Keeping score

When we think of scorecards, we think of football or other sports where we want to keep track of how our favorite players and teams are doing. We at the World Bank are also a team – a team battling a very tough opponent; in fact, two opponents: poverty and inequality. While this not a “game” by any means – the stakes are high as the lives and livelihoods of millions of people around the world are on the line – we also want to keep track of how we’re doing.As a former Country Director, and in my travels before and since, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many, many people whose lives have changed thanks to the support we’re lending to countries. There’s the farmer in Malawi who now has access to a rural road and can take his produce to market; the single mother in Bolivia who is making a living now thanks to her small sewing business; and the young girl in Myanmar that now has access to school and a brighter future. I’ve seen their faces, I’ve heard their stories first-hand, and I’ve witnessed the impact we make through our efforts.
