OUAGADOUGOU, September 30, 2025 – A two-day High-Level Forum on Defying Drought (D2) in West Africa concluded today in Ouagadougou with a strong commitment to address the pressing challenges of drought in the region, amid the broader context of climate change and population growth. Senior policymakers from Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Senegal, joined by technical experts from Morocco and Brazil, as well as regional and international institutions and development partners, came together to advance coordinated and practical solutions to reduce drought-related losses and build climate resilience across the Sahel. Technical sessions showcased regional and global best practices and facilitated the co-design of a roadmap outlining short-, medium-, and long-term policy actions to strengthen drought resilience across West Africa.

eC2: Support to the Government of Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo for the Evaluation of Urban Transport and Mobility Management and the Development of a Strategy for Sustainable Urban Mobility

The purpose of the study is to develop comprehensive, coherent and applicable policy recommendations, a relevant strategy, shared by all stakeholders and a priority action plan for the sustainable management of urban transport and mobility in the countries, through a swift assessment of the legislative and regulatory framework of the institutions in charge of the transport sector, a diagnosis of the functioning of the urban transport sub-sector. The study also aims to propose a guide for urban transport improvement and establish a strategic plan for sustainable mobility for the main secondary cities, based on the findings of a comprehensive assessment of one pilot city to be chosen in agreement with the respective Governments.
eC2:Support for the PPP Institutional Framework and Development of the PPP Project Portfolio

The objectives of this technical assistance project for Burkina Faso are as follows:
- assess and support the development of an enabling PPP institutional framework,
- evaluate and review a portfolio of priority PPP projects, and
- support the capacity building of key personnel in PPP ministries and agencies by means of training seminars.
