The objective of this activity is to update the understanding of the cooking sector, bringing together in one document a summary of key challenges, opportunities, barriers, and solutions toward achieving universal access to modern energy cooking services by 2030.
In many countries, women walk over six kilometers to collect water. Between 2006 and
2012 in Niger, women traveled an hour, on average, to fetch water. Worldwide, 4.5 billion people lack access to safely managed sanitation services and 2.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water services.
Globally 89% of girls complete primary education, but only 77% complete lower 
secondary education, which in most countries is 9 years of schooling. In low income countries, the numbers drop to below 2/3 for primary education, and only 1/3 for lower secondary school.
