Can’t attend the Spring Meetings in person? Attend the Spring Meetings LIVE Online! The first LIVE ONLINE event is on Innovations to Prevent Gender-Based Violence: Building Evidence for Effective Solutions, April 18th at 2:30pm ET / 18:30 GMT.

To support the prevention of violence against women and girls, the World Bank Group and Sexual Violence Research Initiative will award 10 teams from around the world with funds to support research and innovation to help address this global epidemic. Nearly 1 billion women and girls across all countries and cultures will experience intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Violence experienced by women and girls is an obstacle to development gains, as it impedes their full participation in society, limits access to education and economic participation, and hinders efforts to achieve gender equality. Award winners will share their motivations and successes in developing effective prevention and response interventions, which the World Bank can also incorporate into its development work.

Empowering Women in the World

Empowering Women in the World | Voices  : Submitted by Kristalina Georgieva (CEO World Bank )

When women do well, everyone benefits. Giving women access to better jobs and financial security are keys to ending poverty. Gender gaps harm the entire economy. We know that when women control the finances, they tend to spend money on the things that matter most – essential food and water, school fees and health care for the family. It’s amazing what small changes can do – a mobile money account opens up the ability to get small loans, buy insurance, and make payments. The World Bank is working to empower women around the world, supporting women entrepreneurs in Pakistan and supporting women and their families with cash cards in Lebanon.

eC2: Digital Transformation Strategic Client Workshops

Deadline: 26-Apr-2017 at 11:59:59 PM (Eastern Time – Washington D.C.) Financial Education

A wave of innovation is sweeping financial services, transforming channels products and processes and enabling broader outreach. This has resulted in improved product fit for underserved segments, and more efficient service delivery. Together these improvements can enable a more sustainable provision of high volume low value services to previously underbanked segments, as well as improved delivery across all segments. Some of this innovation is coming from new regulated and unregulated stand-alone financial services providers. The full potential for financial inclusion, however, will be more quickly attained by fostering innovation in the incumbent banks and financial service providers alongside fostering innovative entrants. IFCs goals of financial inclusion and servicing the real economy are therefore served by both investing in FinTech innovators and by helping incumbents build their capacity to innovate internally and adopt external innovations.
