With pleasure we would like to tell you more about: The International Financial Institutions (IFI) Water technology fact-finding mission to Washington D.C. that took place 22-25 January 2024. This event was co-organized with the other private sector liaison officers of Austria, Germany, Spain, Canada, Switzerland and UK. 85 participants, 46 water companies from 7 countries visited Washington DC for a vital exchange with the International Finance Institutions (IFI’s).

The goal of the fact-finding mission was to discuss recent developments in the water sector, deepdive into public private partnerships, digitization and circular economy in the field of Water and Sanitation at the World Bank (WB), International Financial Corporation (IFC), Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was highlighted. The discussions on the water sectors strategies, priorities and portfolios of the World Bank Group, Inter-American Development Bank, Millennium Challenge Corporation and U.S. Agency for International Development were fruitful. Furthermore, the program allowed company participants to exchange experiences and develop potential partnerships, this was seen as a huge benefit for the attendee’s.

A lot of companies took advantage of the opportunity to have bilateral meetings with IFI staff as well as American partners.  In addition the mission had 3 separate moments for the private sector and other organizations to network with IFI staff. The first networking session was for the attendee’s from the different countries at the German trade council office, the second and third had the speakers and or colleagues from the IFI’s present. 

The goal of providing IFI’s with ideas and solutions to help develop and enhance their agenda’s in the water sector by allowing the private sector to profile and discuss their solutions was accomplished according to received survey responses.
