Myanmar – Agricultural Development Support Project

Later this month, the Board of Directors of the World Bank is scheduled to decide on the Myanmar Agricultural Development Support Project. This project involves a total of $100 million. Below are the highlights of the project.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES (PDO)

The project development objective is to increase crop yields and cropping intensity in
selected existing irrigation sites in the Recipient’s Bago East, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, and Sagaing regions.

PROJECT COMPONENTS

The Agricultural Development support project (ADSP) has 4 components (i)
Irrigation and Drainage Management (US$78.4 million); (ii) Farm Advisory and Technical Services (US$17.2 million); (iii) Project Coordination and Management (US$4.4 million); and (iv) Contingent Emergency Response (US$0 million).

PDO Level Results Indicators

The project outcome indicators include: (i) Number of direct project beneficiaries; (ii) Average yields of selected crops in the project area increased; and (iii) Cropping intensity in the project area increased. Applicable indicators are disaggregated by gender. The project Results Framework is presented in Annex 1.

*Beneficiaries: All farm households, regardless of their farm size, who have access to irrigated land in the project irrigation sites in Bago East, Sagaing, Mandalay, and Nay Pyi Taw regions.
