Resilient Supply Chains – Farmers & Food Industry Tackle the Shared Challenge of Climate Change – A Strategic Dialogue (London, 19 October 2015)

Climate change brings significant, resilient supply chainsconcrete and near-term impacts for farmers and food companies’ bottom lines alike. The objective of this strategic dialogue is to bring leaders from both groups together to discuss their shared climate change challenges:

Short Term  –  Income and Bottom Line Implications of More Volatility

Medium Term  –  Increasing Costs & Regulatory Risk

Longer Term  –  Supply of Strategic Commodities Under Pressure

The event will highlight concrete examples of how farmers and food companies can work together to build more resilient supply chains. Companies will share their experience of deepening supply chain engagement. Farmers will describe the impacts climate change has on their production and what is needed for them to continue to feed demand.

Who Will Be There

The event will bring together:

  • Senior managers, heads of units/departments and senior technical specialists from across supply chain management, procurement, sustainability and strategy units of food retailers, processors, traders and other agri-businesses.
  • Representatives of farmer groups from developed and developing countries.
  • Other stakeholders including development partners, civil society and academia.

What to Expect

A full day of focused sessions and networking opportunities in Central London. Sessions will include focused keynotes, interactive panels and structured collaborative formats. There will be ample opportunities for networking including a dedicated matchmaking service to ensure the right conversations take place and participant value is maximized.

The event is co-hosted by the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the UK Department of International Development (DFID), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
